Wikipedia Is Live Now In China

Friday, August 1st, 2008

just learned from Xianguo Iphone(in Chinese) that the GFW-long-blocked Wikipedia has come to live. I tried the English and Chinese version and both work well.
The reason? I’m not sure, perhaps it’s because the around-the-corner Olympic Games.

Even though the access to the internet has proved still not completely open and free, those very knowledge intensive websites like wikipedia have got the chances of being unblocked by the government, at least during Games.

and here’s the screenshot.

1.1.3 BL 3.9 Unlock Comming Soon!!

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Just got it from hacktintosh. Very exciting news, isn’t it? :-)

BTW, actually just tried to update my iphone from 1.0.2 to 1.1.3 recently. But in the final end i failed. As a result, i’m on 1.1.2 now.

If the software unlocking for bootloader 3.9 firmware 1.1.3 would be released very soon as said, then I’ll be waiting for it without a second 1.1.3 soft-upgrade try.

Mobile Firefox Touch Screen UI Design Published

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

mobile firefox by mozilla linksiphone safari

It seems the designers have done a very deep research and study on iphone’s Safari. ‘Coz the whole layout of the browser window is very similar to Safari’s,  from the top address bar, the middle main browser window, to the bottom toolbar.

Sure it’s just a spec and very far from a product yet. However, it’s a real first step anyway, just as Mozilla Links says so. So I feel excited about it ‘coz it means my dream of seeing firefox on iphone comes closer than before.

PR Update To 3

 PageRank Updated To 3

Not too much news on this PageRank update so far. But now that both Search Engine Roundtable and searchnewz have reported similar PR drop cases, guess i should say today is my day :-)

Well, it’s not easy anyway. About two and an half months has passed since the last update on the end of Oct. 2007. and during these days this site has been kept posting new and original articles all along. Google may see this and think time to present a reward now

Cheers :-)

Expecting Firefox 3 Beta 2

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

I myself has been trying firefox 3 beta 1 all the time since it’s released on Nov.19th. As to my experience, memory management has been improved a lot. I did try to keep the browser running the whole day and i did find it never took more than 100MB memory allocation. I’m pretty well satisfied.

Now beta 2 is around the corner. As said, easier to use, faster and less memory usage are the key improving aspects. Wow, just cann’t wait to try it out.

And guess I would not go back to Firefox 2, too, if those of my previously installed add-ons could be upgraded to work under Firefox 3.

Update(Nov 19th,2007): It’s released today. Get it by Help->Check for updates... in Firefox 3 Beta 1.

Rumor:iPhone Will Come To China at 2008 Spring Festival?

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Rumor source here  :-)

D.Phone(迪信通) is one of the largest phone retailers here in beijing, even whole mainland. Actually my first mobile phone moto P7689 was bought there in Jan, 2001.

I think to make iphone available to china, at least the deal should cover several issues:

1.Official unlocked iphone.
Perhaps the same as the Germany/France version. Good news, anyway, isn’t it?

2.UI Localization
This may not be a big issue.
Actually even without the official one, an Chinese lang pack are already there by achan11.

3.App Localization
Like Chinese Input(I know you’ve already got iCosta or NativeCn working, but kinda hand-writing IME is still necessary), Phone Enhancement(CallID correctly recognition etc).

4.Hardware Localization
Perhaps, Wifi module has to been removed as required by Chinese goverment(sorry,it’s in Chinese).
But I wonder how many people still wanna buy such an iphone.

Opera Mini 4

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I’ve talked Mobile Firefox before, and I’ve been using Safari on my iPhone for a while.
And in my perspective, a full web browsing experience in the relatively small-sized screen mobile phone is well worth of a try anyway, esp for those whose phones could support kinda of installations.

Now it’s time. Opera Mini 4 is free to download.

I don have such a phone to try out. So if you do, don forget to share what you feel about it.

P.S. I do love this picture from Opera site.

iPhone Prices 3999RMB(535USD) in Guangzhou,China Today

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

iPhone, as invention Of the Year by NYT, even though Apple has made the restriction on the amount and the way that people buy iphone, still drops to 3999RMB(535USD) in Guangzhou, China(in Chinese) today.

Of course, it’s Chinese-localized, activated and unlocked by the resellers. All in all, it works perfect in both China Mobile and China Unicom.

And i think that price of iphone is still very competitive to the following competitors, although it’s 235USD more than in US:

N95(8GB) : 5999RMB(803USD)
N95
N93i : 3990RMB(534USD)

Moto RAZR : 2600RMB(348USD)

Sony-Ericsson P1i : 3080RMB(412USD)
