How to Enable MMS on iPhone 2G

cmcc-mms-on-2g-works

This is tested in my iphone 2G using China Mobile’s GoTone(全球通) service by my Windows Xp laptop.

1.Install ActivateMMS2G via Icy or Cydia by adding manually this rep http://cydia.alpden.com . Credit goes to hackint0sh user ‘micked’ on this post.

2.Install this customized carrier bundle CMCC_Cui via iTunes by following this tutorial by iclarified.

This installation is to fix the issue of cannot saving the MMS APN settings after the step 1.

Besides, i’ve just updated the carrier logo for China Mobile. See the screenshot above, on the top-left corner, the icon, which originally is chinese characters of 中国移动.

And one more things, for all Windows users that still haven’t find a tool to edit the .plist file, here’s the one for you: pledit.exe.

3. Check your Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network, make sure everything goes the same as the picture below shows.

4. Go to Settings->Messages, turn MMS Messaging on.

5. Reboot and enjoy.

iPhone 1.1.4 Fix: Safari Can’t Remember Password

 greader-remember me

For those iphoners who unlocked their iphones by iPlus, they should have the same problem as i do.

The reason is because the user ‘mobile’ under which Safari is running has no permission to save the cookies.

And the fix is pretty easy, run chmod -R 777 /private/var/mobile/Library/Cookies on the iphone by Term-v100 or Putty.

OpenID Enabled

openid

I love OpenID, ‘coz i do think it’s the future of the mechanism of authentication and authorization. The more you learn about it, the cooler you will think it is. No wonder why so many big companies are chasing it now, including google, yahoo and microsoft.

And i’ve tried several times to make my site support OpenID by installing some found plugins. but all failed.

Until today i’ve figured it out finally. If your site is powered by the latest wordpress 2.3.2 and you wanna openid, here’s how:

1. install this plugin(by now, it’s version 2.1.2);

2. modify the \openid\Auth\Yadis\Yadis.php according to this comment. as said, remove the “=null” part. that is, from the italic one to the bold one:

function discover($uri, &$fetcher = null,
$extra_ns_map = null, $timeout = 20)

function discover($uri, &$fetcher,
$extra_ns_map, $timeout = 20)

3. now activate the plugin and enjoy.
You can just ignore the warning in the setting page of the plug if you still get it.

BTW, I use PHP 4.

And i encourage you to get your own openid from either myopenid.com as i did or any other providers listed here or spreadopenid. ‘Coz if you do and you wanna leave a comment here, your comment will be shown immediately and no awaiting needed as usual. At least as a piece of cake  😉

Update: It doesn’t work https so far. see my testing comment. If you know other openid plugins for wordpress, please share with me. Thanks.

Update(Jan.18,2008): Now yahoo has choosed to join openid too.

Say Goodbye To Firefox 2

Yes, I really don wanna go back to firefox 2. But there are some add-ons i really need there. So what should i do?

After some googling i got this work-around today. I tried immediately by adding the boolean “extensions.checkCompatibility” with the value of “false”. Then restart my firefox.

You know what? Oops, it works! At least most of my favourite add-ons are working now, including del.icio.us, ABP, IE Tab, Foxyproxy, Search Status and Forecastfox. Then from now on I will stay at firefox 3 for sure, even it it’s still in beta. Tons of positive reviews plus my personal experience push me make the choice.

We all know in the end those add-ons will be definitely upgraded to be compatible with firefox 3. for now I just can’t wait.  How about you?:-)

Update(Feb.17,2008): if you are now in firefox 3 beta 3, just as i am, you may check out my new post here on how to make your favorite add-ons working there.
